Laotian food is hard to pin down. It borrows some Vietnamese influences but has its own spin on things such as steak tartare and dishes with water buffalo.

One thing common to most Laotian food is the presence of sticky rice and a garnish of fried shallots, onions and garlic and chopped scallions. It's an intriguing cuisine that would seem at once Vietnamese and also Indian. All of it fascinating and delicious!
