Party Potluck Noodles

Party Potluck Noodles: pasta, soy sauce, garlic, ginger combine in a great dish

© June Chua

You're invited to a potluck, don't panic. Here's a great Asian noodle dish that you can do in no time at all.

These noodles are easy because this recipe uses ingredients you should already have. Who doesn't have pasta? By the way, pasta noodles are an easy substitute for Asian noodles (afterall, where do you think the Italians got their noodles from?).

By the way, these noodles would be great to bring to your next Chinese New Year's celebration (Feb. 18, 2007). Noodles symbolize long life. I'll bring you more recipes as we edge closer to the lunar new year.

SOY SAUCE NOODLES

  1. In a large bowl, combine the sesame oil, chili oil, soy sauce, garlic, ginger and allspice. Blend.
  2. Toss the pasta with this mixture until the noodles are coated.
  3. Add the pepper, carrot, green onions and toss. Then, the toasted sesame seeds. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve either cold or at room temperature.

Serves 4 to 6.

OPTIONS: For a meaty set of noodles, I sometimes bring home BBQ pork from Chinatown and chop it to mix with the noodles. Alternatively, vegetarian types can also buy some firm tofu, cut into small cubes, and throw in when you add the red pepper and green onions.
