NYC, well known tourist trap, great shows, good food and high prices. However, dinner and a show are not that far out of reach, even in these economic hard times.
While inflation continues to rise, an evening in NYC might seem out of the question in hard economic times. However, if planned carefully, no one has to pass up the opportunity for dinner and a show in the Big Apple. When theatres run promotions of half price tickets, a pair to your favorite show couples well with some of the great restaurants in the Broadway vicinity. NYC is still a viable option for those looking for a night on the town. For a taste of Asian Cuisine in the heart of NYC theater district without the Time’s Square prices, look no further then Nanking Restaurant, located on the corner of Broadway and West 50th Street in Manhattan. Nanking offers an immersion of Chinese and Thai cuisines such as Singapore Mei Fun, at a moderate price. Walking distance from Times Square and the NYC Broadway Strip, Nanking invites guests to a dining experience of contemporary ambiance with a traditional flair, such as eastern inspired background music to accompany your meal. The menu features an array of Chinese and Thai inspired dishes ranging from soups, salads, main courses and desserts. Appetizers start at about 6$, with choices such as vegetable or chicken spring rolls, crisp rolls fried golden and filled with vegetables, accompanied by a sweet peach dipping sauce. Entrees begin at 11$ which include chili garlic noodles, or Singapore rice noodles, with your choice of vegetable, shrimp or chicken. Each diner is given a selection of delectable sauces to accompany their meal from traditional soy sauce, to hot and sweet chili sauces. The staff on hand is willing to accommodate specific dietary requirements such as gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and lactose free. A sweet compliment to any dinner selection is a glass of Thai iced tea, a blend of spiced tea, sugar and cream, priced at 4 $. Anyone looking for a more adventurous choice, a mosaic style bar awaits you where the bartender will create the drink of your choice. Diners catching a Matinee can choose from Nanking’s lunch menu which includes many of their larger entrees at smaller price. With summer upon us and inflation increasing, leisure activity does not have to be one of the items that gets slashed from your budget. NYC’s theaters still offer promotional ticket sales. Coupling a pair of tickets with a lunch or dinner at Nanking makes a fine outing for the day during this summer vacation.
